I heard that New Jersey is thinking about nailing fast food purchases with a ';Taco Bell Tax.'; Why? Because obesity is the key reason medical spending is out of control.





A NJ expert on health noted that pictures during the 1967 Newark riots would show how skinny people were compared to today.

Seriously, fast food isn't really the biggest problem. For one thing, have you gone grocery shopping recently? All the soda, sweets, chips and other crap that seems to make a majority of families purchases seem just as bad or not worse than most fast food.





Secon of all, I think obesity is more due to the lack of exercise than it is from our diet, even though both are causes. It would not only be better if we can target legislation to encourage exercise, but would also avoid pissing people off as much. Taxing food is not going to be popular, no matter what health results you expect to get out of it.
National health care would solve that problem. We'll have it with the next presidency. We'll see the junk food industry put on a short leash.





We'll see higher co-pays for people out of shape. Why should our tax money go to people who continue to get fat?





We'll see sissy sticks (guns) go by the way of the dinosaur. We'll say good riddance to the tobacco industry. And we'll see the proof of hard liquor come way down.

Greed is the reason our health care costs are of control not obesity. When a hospital charges $8.00 for one Tylenol, there's a real problem !
No I don't agree. If this is the case. Products with corn syrup. the makers of donuts, and the list goes on, should be taxed. This is a personal responsibility issue. Not political. I also think to say that healthcare costs are so high due to obesity is bullshit.
Why don't we just make being overweight illegal. We could put up some prisons that house them and rehabilitate them, which would mean they would be forced to lose weight before being reintroduced to society.
OK with me - and they can use the money to engineer more pedestrian-friendly communities.
