The Patch emits a higher dose of hormones than the Pill does, and some doctors aren't even prescribing it anymore.

';Women who use Ortho Evra庐 are exposed to about 60% more total estrogen in their blood than if they were taking a typical birth control pill containing 35 micrograms of estrogen. Typically, an increased exposure to estrogen may increase the risk of blood clots. However, it is not yet known whether women using the patch are at a greater risk of experiencing these serious adverse events.';

Ask your health plan how much it'll cost. It'll depend on if it's on their formulary (preferred list of medications), and whether they require you to get your birth control medications in three-month installments through the mail.

You might consider getting the NuvaRing, a vaginal ring you replace once a month, instead. It emits lower doses of hormones than the Pill.
