How do you deal with out of control cost?

I have a friend who is working for another person from our spiritual center who does taxes. So I left my regular tax man cause I was a little mad that he cost my son some extra money last year for not getting something in on time....so I thought he has become careless...Ok, so I go to the friends %26amp; get my taxes done. We were late but it was no fault of theres...I just called to see how much my taxes would cost to have them prepared %26amp; the bill is $280. plus of course I have some money I own.....this is not a good time for me to be paying extra money out....I went to see what my mother preparer charged last year %26amp; it was $75....I am really angry now. Should I say something. Just pay it %26amp; sell my furniture to pay my other bills.....I also have a car that I am not having repaired because the problem is electical %26amp; the price could end up being more than they could tell us...how do you plan for these things if you are on a budget or how do you handle them? How do you deal with out of control cost?
I see it as a serious problem. To resolve it I would pass price control legislation and loss cracking down on the black market, which could ensue as a consequence of price control..On a personal level I try to buy wholesale, t eat out as much, buy in thrift sops, use a car that does not guzzle gas, buy house brands, try to car pool, take lunch from home to work, and use the least expensive stores. The only store I wouldn't use is Wall Mart, because they oppress workers and engage in right wing politics. How do you deal with out of control cost?
From this and your other question, maybe your business prices are too reasonable and you should raise them. Your business ought to be able to finance your taxes, car, and basic living expenses, without you having to sell your furniture. Maybe you are being too nice to other people.

Sell whatever you need to in order to be debt-free. When you don't have debt you have . . . MONEY! Also, a $1,000 emergency fund solves a lot of problems and helps keep Murphy away. Run a written budget, planning for all known expenses and allocating every penny on paper before its time arrives. The budget should take 2 forms, a year out and close in. By knowing expenses a year out (car insurance every 6 months?) you can build up to them with the close-in budget, putting part of it aside so when the day arrives you have the money.
Doing your taxes is ridiculously easy nowadays. I did mine online for $10. As a CPA, I can tell you that what other CPA's and companies like H%26amp;R Block are doing is highway robbery. It takes no more than 10-30mins to file taxes EVEN if you have a somewhat complex return. The instructions are all there!!! You cant screw up!!!

My father is a property owner and I showed him how to do his own taxes online last year for $20. Now he does it all the time and constantly talks about how he can't believe he paid $300+ dollars a year thinking that it was complex.

Legal tax advice is the only thing you should be paying more than $100 for.
